Program Description

If a hard hat and building big stuff is for you, consider our two-year Civil Engineering Technology: Construction Management program. Take an in-depth look at construction principles and practices, equipment and management-related topics. Our on-the-job practicum readies you to assist in planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating construction projects. Manage blueprints, contract documents and budget from start to finish, and according to schedule. Your first year of training covers the basics of building engineering technology. In the second year, you’ll specialize in construction principles and practices, construction equipment and management-related topics. A work attachment with industry participants provides you with a measure of on-the-job exposure and training in carrying out a project to completion.

  • Geometry and Applications in Mathematics 112 and Functions and Relations 112
  • One (1) additional science from the following:
    • Biology 112 or 122
    • Chemistry 112 or 122
    • Physics 112 or 122 (Recommended)
Career Possibilities

Construction management technologists are employed by residential, commercial and industrial construction companies, and by construction departments of companies outside the construction industry. As a graduate of this program, you may be employed with construction firms as one of the supervisory personnel and as a quantity surveyor (estimator). With experience, you may obtain a position as a superintendent, project manager, or inspector on construction projects.

This is a L.I.V.E. program. NBCC L.I.V.E. students have a world of knowledge at their fingertips via the NBCC wireless network. Classes that use the L.I.V.E. program are different from traditional classes because students may find themselves completing class assignments online or maintaining an electronic journal. When not in the classroom, students can still communicate with their classmates and instructors in an electronic medium, measure their knowledge through online tests, or simply conduct research on the internet.
