Specific Considerations

This program has a work placement component within its curriculum as a requirement for certification. Students may be required by host agencies or employers to provide a current criminal record check from a police service recognized by the host agency or employer before they may start their work placement. Individuals who have been convicted criminally and not pardoned may be prohibited from proceeding to a work placement. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he or she is eligible to participate. Language of instruction for this program is in English. Due to the linguistic needs of our population, the Department of Health requires some graduates who are able to function in both English and French. As a result, a certain number of the seats are set-aside in this program for bilingual students. To be considered for a bilingual placement in this program, please indicate your Mother tongue on the NBCC application form, and submit the necessary Language Proficiency Certificates in your second language. If neither English nor French is your Mother tongue, Language Proficiency Certificates in both languages will be required. Language Proficiency Certificates as issued by Post-Secondary Education and Labour (PETL) are the standard used by the Government of New Brunswick and non-government agencies to determine an individual’s ability to function in either of our two official languages. Certificates in Oral and Writing proficiency indicating Level (4) competency are accepted as evidence of the necessary bilingual status to be considered. Students are responsible for obtaining the necessary language proficiency certificates and the associated costs. Information regarding language evaluation may be obtained by contacting the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour - Linguistic Services: Telephone: (506) 453-2260 Fax: (506) 453-5317 E-Mail: LS-SL@gnb.ca The language evaluation application form is available on the Service NB Web site: www.snb.ca. This is a L.I.V.E. program. NBCC L.I.V.E. students have a world of knowledge at their fingertips via the NBCC wireless network. Classes that use the L.I.V.E. program are different from traditional classes because students may find themselves completing class assignments online or maintaining an electronic journal. When not in the classroom, students can still communicate with their classmates and instructors in an electronic medium, measure their knowledge through online tests, or simply conduct research on the internet.
