Program Description
If working as part of a construction team and constantly seeing progress sounds appealing, the Electrical program is for you. We offer a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training that prepares you for both entry-level positions and future career advancement in the field of home construction and renovation. You learn your trade under actual shop conditions, where you can develop an understanding of the installation and operation of electrical systems and components.
Through practical projects, you develop skills in fundamental wiring practices, pipe threading and bending, cable tray installation, service entrances and basic troubleshooting techniques, to name just a few. An industry practicum is included to offer you exposure to the work environment prior to graduation.
Career Possibilities
You may find employment with electrical contractors, with a public utility, in the oil industry or pulp and paper industry, as well in the fields of sales, fire alarms, burglar alarms, elevator installers, and so on. As you acquire experience and become a qualified journeyman, there are opportunities to become an electrical foreman, superintendent or appraiser, or you may choose to be self-employed. This is a compulsory occupation in New Brunswick. New entrants into this occupation must register as an apprentice with the Apprenticeship and Certification Branch of the New Brunswick Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour.
