Duration:The requirements for this certificate program may be achieved within one academic year of full-time study.
Program Description

If you like seeing projects through to completion and enjoy working with your hands, our Carpentry program is for you. Train for employment in the residential and commercial building construction trade armed with a complete understanding of building codes and standards, matched with safety and quality assurance processes. Small home builders and remodeling companies might require you to learn about all aspects of building a house – framing walls and partitions, putting in doors and windows, building stairs, installing cabinets and mouldings, and many other tasks. Large construction contractors or specialty contractors, however, might require you to perform only a few regular tasks, such as framing walls, constructing wooden forms for pouring concrete, or erecting scaffolding.

Specific Considerations

Physical ability to work under the conditions established on construction sites should be considered. This occupation requires physical fitness and good coordination. The hours of work may be irregular and may include shift work, weekends and holidays. Graduates of this program may find employment with contractors in the building industry, in carpentry related industries, or as entrepreneurs in the building industry.
