Student Guide to Co-op Education

Co-op education is a terrific opportunity, to build your resume while studying at NBCC.

A co-op program helps you:

  • Apply your classroom knowledge to a work setting
  • Clarify your career direction
  • Develop confidence in your skills and abilities

PlacementsAt NBCC, we make every effort to secure work placements for all co-op students. We cannot, however, unconditionally guarantee work placements to all students who enrol. All co-operative education work placements must be approved by NBCC, and all work-term placements are to be finalized three weeks prior to the start of the work term.

ResponsibilitiesCo-op work placements must provide students with the opportunity to augment their academic studies. A student’s job progress must be supervised by the employer, and monitored and evaluated by the employer and NBCC.

PaymentStudents are paid by the employer during the work term. Wages paid to the student should be the equivalent to an entry-level position. In no case can wages be less than minimum wage.

Get started:

  1. Review the co-op job descriptions advertised in the co-op office
  2. Prepare your cover letter and resume
  3. Submit applications to the Coordinator – Co-operative Education
  4. Prepare for interviews
  5. Confirm arrangements with the employer in writing
