New Brunswick Community
College would like to congratulate alumna Krista Munroe on becoming a Chartered
Accountant.
Munroe lives in Apohaqui,
N.B., with her husband and daughter and is among the 2012 CA graduates.
Munroe’s work experience
actually began before graduating with her diploma in Business Technology in
2005. While studying at NBCC, Krista worked a five week term at Beers Neal LLP,
and was offered an accounting position as soon as she finished her studies. She
has since become a Senior Manager.
“NBCC was providing courses
that (were) eligible for exemption within the Certified General Accountant
(CGA) program, which gave me a start toward obtaining my designation,” Munroe
noted. “Even though I changed from the CGA program to the CA program in November
2008, I received many exemptions for courses I had taken at NBCC.”
Returning to school is a big
step for anyone, especially for a wife and mother. It’s because of this that
Munroe recognized the importance of her education. While she said many courses
were intimidating at first, she excelled each semester and this built up her
confidence and enhanced her ability to succeed.
“The
College fulfilled the need I had to get a formal education in a shorter period
of time when compared to university, and it allowed me to obtain full-time
employment upon graduation so I could help support my family while continuing
to move forward with my career goals,” she said.
Looking back, Munroe is proud of her
accomplishments and the journey she took to get this far. Munroe feels that she is well-rounded in her education and benefitted from the
opportunity to work with a number of her fellow graduates over the past seven
years. Munroe said that many of her classmates have found a successful
career path because of the education they received at NBCC, even if it wasn’t
what they originally set out to do.
“I really enjoyed my time as an NBCC student,”
Munroe said when reflecting on her time at the College. “I found that most of
the teachers had a vested interest in my success and made time for me when I
had questions or concerns. I also found that I had plenty of technical
training that helped give me a running start in my job.”
Convocation took place on Jan. 21, 2012.
