What is the cost of tuition at NBCC?
Tuition for international students is $5600 in Canadian funds. The tuition is paid in 3 payments. The first payment of $700 is due within 60 days of acceptance (Confirmation Fee) and applied to the tuition. The second payment of $2100 is due at registration, while the third payment of $2800 is due at the start of the 2nd semester. There are also fees for application ($100), health insurance ($600) and living expenses which are not included in this amount.

What is the ranking of NBCC?The New Brunswick Community College is not included in a ranking system but is regulated by the Province of New Brunswick under post-secondary education legislation.

What are the options for housing/residence?Although NBCC does not offer residence on their campuses, there are accomodations resources available through each campus's Student Services branch. NBCC International works with Student Services on behalf of international students to identify suitable accommodations.

Is there an International Student Advisor office?NBCC has a representative on each campus for international students to contact on various issues. Once the student arrives in Canada, the staff member responsible for international students will meet with students to answer any concerns or questions they may have.

What is the weather like in New Brunswick and what is the recommended clothing?New Brunswick has four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Temperatures may range from above 30 degrees Celsius in the summer to minus 12 degrees Celsius in the winter. Weather has various conditions in New Brunswick, from rain and cool conditions to warm and dry conditions and is known to change frequently.
In the cool weather of the spring and fall, you should have light clothing that will keep you dry and warm. From June to September, most areas of New Brunswick are warm with slightly cooler evenings, which may require some knit clothing, like a sweater. In summer you will wear lightweight clothing as the temperature increases. Winters in Canada are very cold and can be challenging. To keep warm and safe in the winter you need to have proper winter clothing whenever you are outside. Proper winter clothing includes boots with lining and treads to prevent slipping on ice, windproof or heavy coats, hats, gloves, and more layering of clothing underneath. Expect temperatures below freezing in the winter season in Canada.

What services are available in the communities and on the campuses?All NBCC Campuses have Student Services offices with professional counseling services for academic studies, budgeting, and employment and career counseling. All communities have banking, shopping, recreational facilities and health services providers.

Are there scholarships or financial aid available?While scholarships and bursaries specific to international students may be limited, arriving students may be eligible for scholarships and bursaries available to all students in their program of study. Students can also access the NBCC website for additional scholarship information, or contact the campus of their choice.

What kind of transportation is available and what are the hours of operation?There are a few campuses which have public transportation available through the local municipality, such as public buses with bus passes at student rates. In some cities bus service stops at a specific time in the evening and resumes in the morning. At the smaller campuses, students are usually within a 10 to 15 minute walk to grocery stores, banks, drug stores and other services.
Regional bus transport is available from depots in multiple areas of the Province, which can provide travel throughout the region and Canada. These companies typically offer discounted student rates for most tickets.
There are many areas and campuses where bicycles and walking are common. The main transportation routes in New Brunswick are highways for which automobiles are necessary. Taxis are also available in New Brunswick.
New Brunswick has three main airports. These airports offer regional flights which require a connection for international flights typically in Halifax, Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver. The airport codes are as follows: Fredericton – YFC; Moncton-YQM; and Saint John-YSJ.

Are Library services available?All NBCC campuses have library services with books and periodicals, as well as audio-visual resources. Electronic databases which index and provide full text information from periodicals and reference materials are also located in the library. Internet access is available in libraries and computer labs and in some classrooms. Hours of operation depend on the campus.

Is there medical insurance and access to hospitals close by?It is mandatory for international students enrolled at NBCC to have emergency medical insurance. Your letter of acceptance explains that you must pay your health insurance fee ($600) within 60 days of acceptance in your program. Your campus will enrol you in the Health Insurance plan and can assist you in the event that you need medical care.

In New Brunswick there are many major hospitals located in each region of the Province with ambulance transport service available in case of medical emergencies. For less critical medical issues, local public health clinics provide routine medical care.

Does New Brunswick accept international driver’s licenses? If you have a driver's license from your country, it is necessary to get an international driver's license before you leave your home country. This international driver's license is valid for one year only, and you will have to renew the license or apply for a New Brunswick driver's license. Depending on your home country, you may be required to do a full test, or simply have to transfer your license due to reciprocal agreements in place with New Brunswick for a class 5 or motorcycle license.
If you buy a car, you will have to exchange your license immediately for a New Brunswick driving license.
If you are employed after graduation, you will need to check your status with the New Brunswick Department of Transportation. To get a New Brunswick driver's license, you must take a written exam and driving test. For information, check with your Advisor or call the New Brunswick Department of Transportation.

How do I get a visa?Once NBCC receives your application, it will be processed. If you are accepted we will send you an Acceptance Package including a Letter of Acceptance, a receipt for your deposit, and other relevant information. Take your Letter of Acceptance to the Canadian Embassy or High Commission in your country and apply for a Student Authorization. When your Student Authorization has been approved, you will receive a Letter of Approval from the Canadian Embassy or High Commission. Be sure to bring this letter with you to Canada.

What is the deadline for submitting applications?It is recommended that International students apply by November for the next September’s academic year. Early application helps ensure an available seat in the program of choice.
Transcripts must be submitted with applications. If the transcript is submitted in a language other than English or French, an official document translated by a certified translator must be attached to the application.

When should accepted students arrive in Canada?
Students should arrive about a week before the college term begins. On the first or second day at NBCC, students should meet with the Student Services advisor. Students should bring their passport, and study Permit at this time.

How long does it take to get a Study Permit?The Study Permit, in many cases, is issued at the point of entry into Canada. The application form and Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) application should be taken along with all the other relevant documents to the Canadian Embassy or Consulate in your country. Once the visa is approved, students will receive a Letter of Approval from the Canadian Embassy. These documents should be presented upon entry into Canada. The length of time to complete the process will vary by country and by applicant. To extend your Study Permit while in Canada, please consult the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website or visit the Student Services office at your campus.

Can I work in Canada?Yes. To be eligible for an Off Campus Work Permit you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Possess a valid study permit.
- Have studied full time and maintained satisfactory academic standing in your specific program of study at a participating institution for at least six out of the twelve months preceding your application to work off campus (the six months do not have to be consecutive);
- Have applied for the off-campus work permit program at a participating institution;
- Have been, and continue to be, registered as a full-time student in a program other than English.
Under the Off Campus Work Permit program you are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week while attending post secondary full time studies. You can work full time on holidays and when classes are not in session. To maintain your work permit in status you will have to maintain full time status in the program as well as being in satisfactory academic standing and comply with the conditions of your work permit and study permit.

Post graduate Work PermitAfter successful completion of a post-secondary or graduate program at New Brunswick Community College, international students are eligible to apply for an Open Post Graduation Work Permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The permit is for a maximum of three years and cannot be extended. As of April, 2008, graduates of a one-year program are eligible for a one-year permit, while graduates of two or three-year programs are eligible for a three-year permit.
