Course Description
Topics will include:
- Examine important philosophies, attitudes and values that underlie the human service field and guide human service workers
- Explain the concept of multi-causality
- Research culturally sensitive issues in human services
- Examine the characteristics and skills of an effective human service worker
- Model the skills required to empower and support individuals in difficult situations
- Role-play situations using problem-solving techniques
- Investigate the role of case managers and advocates in the human service field
- Apply effective human service strategies and techniques to a variety of social problems and individuals with challenges
- Research legal issues that can confront a human service worker and identify strategies for preparing for court and helping clients get their legal rights
Admission RequirementsPrerequisites: Grade 12 or equivalent if seeking an Human Services certificate.
