Elva Sullivan – Fredericton

“NBCC is a real innovation,” Elva Sullivan says. “It’s a real opportunity for students in New Brunswick.”

A 30 year career in education, 20 of which spent as a guidance counsellor, has prepared Sullivan to be an incredible resource in terms of what public school students are looking for in a post-secondary institution. Sullivan has served as board president for the New Brunswick Teacher’s Association’s (NBTA’s)  and was also involved in literacy testing, evaluation of new tests and supervising student interns. In addition to her career, she’s also an active Rotarian.

She decided to become part of the NBCC Board of Governors as the corporations’ change in status appealed to her. She thought of it as an opportunity to change its profile and give NBCC more weight. Before ever becoming an educator, Sullivan’s first job was working for the Department of Labour (now called the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour) describing NBCC programs. She said being on NBCC’s board is like taking her career full circle. She notes NBCC is a great opportunity for students to get training for a profession.
